Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All participants above the age of 13 years admitted to the medical or surgical ICUs at Tygerberg Hospital
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Participants with: - bleeding disorders - severe coagulopathy - substantial local pathology (e.g. Fournier’s gangrene) and/or other conditions as judged by the attending clinician in whom collection of active surveillance culture samples will pose significant risk
