Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age:18-65 years 2. Weight: 55 - 90 kg 3. Sex: males and females 4. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) I-III physical status scheduled for hip arthroplasty due to fracture neck of femur

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Contraindications to peripheral nerve blocks; lack of patient consent, coagulopathy, or infection at the site of injection. 2. Patients with relevant allergies to used drugs. 3. Body mass index (BMI) more than 35 kg/m2 4. Patients with cognitive or psychiatric dysfunction . 5. Patients with neurological dysfunction in the lower extremities. 6. Pregnancy or breastfeeding women. 7. Children <18 years old.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the total opioid consumption after ultrasound (US)-guided pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block versus US-guided anterior quadratus lumborum (AQL) block in the first 48 hours following hip arthroplasty.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Postoperative analgesia, monitored by visual analog scale (VAS).;Duration of analgesia, defined as the time interval from complete recovery of consciousness till first need for rescue analgesic (VAS score of = 4) in hours. Rescue analgesia will be given in the form of 3 mg Nalbuphine intravenously;Complications and side effects
