Inclusion criteria: ? Term (37 to 42weeks) singleton pregnancy ? Nulliparity ? Cephalic presenting fetus ? No drainage of liqour ? No contraindication to vaginal delivery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: ? Preterm pregnancy ? Intra uterine fetal death ? Fetal macrosomia ? Fetal abnormal presentation ? Multiple pregnancy ? Previous uterine surgeries ? Preinduction fetal heart rate abnormalities ? Present history of antepartum haemorrhage ? Age < 18years ? Contraindications to vaginal delivery

MeasureTime frame
The mean time from administration of intravaginal misoprostol to active phase of labour among participants that had vaginal douching with sodium bicarbonate and normal saline

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The mean time from administration of intravaginal misoprostol to favourable cervix (Bishop score of =6 or transvaginal ultrasound cervical length =28mm) among participants that had vaginal douching with sodium bicarbonate and normal saline.
