Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Residence of the study child’s family in the trial area with an intention to stay in the trial area for the duration of the trial. Age 0-5 months. Provision of informed consent for their child to join the trial from the parents or guardians.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Prior receipt of a malaria vaccine or other experimental malaria intervention such as a monoclonal antibody. Illness which in the opinion of the investigators would not warrant inclusion of a child in a clinical trial, for example severe malnutrition.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Coverage with the booster dose of the RTS,S vaccine.;The incidence of clinical malaria, detected through passive case detection at a clinic or hospital and diagnosed by RDT or a blood smear, during the period from 5 to 36 months of age.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Hospital admissions due to malaria and all other causes excluding injuries and elective surgery during the period from 5 to 36 months of age;Death due to malaria and all other cause excluding injuries and elective surgery during the period from 5 to 36 months of age;Coverage of SMC, ITN use and other EPI vaccines;Prevalence of malaria parasite and anaemia at the end of the transmission season in year 2 (post-booster 1) and year 3 (post booster 2) of the trial
