Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Neonates born at gestational age of at least 28 weeks and required at least two heel pricks or venepuncture procedures.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Those on any form of analgesia within 48 hours of the procedure 2. Those on anticonvulsants or sedatives within 48 hours of the procedure 3. Neonates within 24 hours of age whose mothers had either general anaesthesia at delivery or signs of opioid withdrawal such as tremors, seizures, high pitched cry, restlessness, poor feeding, sweaty or blotchy skin, tachypnoea (Respiratory rate > 60 breaths / min). 4. Babies with any signs of encephalopathy 5. Babies with feed intolerance 6. Babies with severe respiratory distress or requiring ventilatory support 7. Babies of mothers with documented history of substance abuse 8. Very or extremely ill babies who are on Nil per oris
