Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: COPD patients respiratory arrest hypotensive shock uncontrolled cardiac ischemia inability to protect the airway excessive secretions agitation or uncooperativeness conditions that preclude the placement of a mask or the achievement of a proper fit Severe acidosis (pH 60 mmHg) Life-threatening hypoxemia Tachypnea >35 breaths/min Impaired mental status
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: COPD patients with Acute respiratory distress syndrome Acute myocardial infarction Chronic renal failure Decompensated liver cell failure Massive pulmonary embolism Pneumothorax Massive pleural effusion patients who were successfully extubated within the first 24 hours of ventilation
