Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: For participation in the baseline survey HCWs will be included if they are 18 years or older, they are able to read, write and understand English, they have an email address to receive study communication, they have a device and means to download the apps, they are willing to be randomised and to engage in a weight reduction and mindfulness programme, and they have the ability and means to determine their height, weight and waist circumference. Further criteria for inclusion in the RCT are that they have a BMI = 23 and = 45 and a weight < 180kg (due to scale upper limits).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: For participation in the baseline survey HCWs will be excluded if they are younger than 18 years. Additional exclusion criteria for the RCT are any health conditions placing limits on physical activity and dietary change, such as serious medical conditions (e.g. cancer), shortness-of-breath on minimal exertion, gastro-intestinal conditions causing malabsorption, pregnancy or breastfeeding, if they have a mental condition requiring more urgent intervention (such as severe mental illness e.g., psychosis, mania, or significant suicidality), if they are already actively using a mental health or weight loss focused app or are currently actively engaged in weight loss management, such as weight-loss medication use, or loss of more than 5% of body weight in the prior 3 months.
