Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: Pregnant women booked for antenatal care in University College Hospital Gestational age of twenty to twenty-four weeks Primigravida Low-risk pregnancy Age eighteen years and older Singleton pregnancy Consent to participation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Multiple gestations High-risk pregnancy – antepartum haemorrhage, early pregnancy bleeding, and hypertension Women already exposed to PFE during pregnancy Women with contraindications to vaginal delivery Multiparous women Low lying placenta Previous genital surgery

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome measures are the prevalence of genital trauma and pattern of genital trauma (first, second, third, or fourth degree) including episiotomy in the two groups. Secondary outcome measures will measure the gestational age at delivery, selected childbirth outcomes such as duration of the first and second stage of labour, route of delivery, use of instrumental delivery, birth weight, and Apgar score.
