Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1- Age: adults above 18 years old. 2- Hepatic patients (Child pugh A and B) undergoing major abdominal surgeries (e.g. hepatic resections, Whipple operation, etc.) requiring post-operative mechanical ventilation.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: • Parent’s refusal. • Contraindication to placement of the NAVA esophageal tube (i.e. any contraindication to placement of a gastric tube, recent gastrointestinal suture, rupture of esophageal varices with gastrointestinal bleeding during the 4 days prior to inclusion or esophageal malformation. • Hepatic patients (Child pugh C) • Severely debilitated patient.
