Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Children aged 6 months to 5 year 2. Patients with SAM irrespective of retroviral status (weight-for-height z-score of <-3 or a Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) of <115 mm or the presence of bilateral pitting edema, or both in children 6 to 59 months of age) 3. Consent by parents or guardians.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Children with emergency or life-threatening conditions like heart failure 2. Children with a significant congenital abnormality or underlying clinical conditions such as congenital heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
