Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1- American Society of Anesthesiologists' physical status (ASA) grades 1 and 2 require general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation 2- Duration of surgery more than 120 min

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1- pre-existing hoarseness of voice or sore throat 2- Smoker 3- Recent or recurrent respiratory tract infection 4- Risk factors for post-operative aspiration 5- Body mass index>35 6- Pregnancy 7- Receiving analgesia, corticosteroids and calcium channel blockers 8- Contraindication to corticosteroid 9- Anticipated difficult intubation and ventilation 10- More than one intubation attempt
