Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participant must be between 18-50 years in order to minimise pain that could be caused by accompanying degenerative disc or joint diseases History of constant neck pain chronic neck pain is characterized: o Having a duration of at least 3 months without pain radiating into arms o The frequency of symptoms being sharp shooting o Moderate to intense pain intensity. Participants diagnosed with myofascial active trigger points one or two of the upper trapezius muscle which was determined in the initial consultation. It showed characteristics as outlined by which includes the following: o Local twitch response of taut band fibres to snapping palpation. o A painful referral to a referral zone specific to muscle involved. o Taut band of muscle fibres that are palpated by snapping or rolling of muscle under finger.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants taking any medication which could influence the study i.e. muscle relaxants, analgesics, NSAIDS or steroids. Participants receiving other treatment by any other healthcare professional for chronic neck pain in the past 3 weeks. Participants that present with any of the listed contra-indications to PNF stretching
