Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Older than 18 years of age; • Good general and oral health; • Upper canines darker than the tab 2.5M2 at VITA Bleached guide 3D-MASTER® (Vita-Zahnfabrik, Bad Sackingen, Germany) scale.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Presence of pain, non-treated caries or periodontal disease; • Prior tooth hypersensitivity; • Presence of gingival recession; • Teeth with cracked enamel or any hypoplasia; • Orofacial tumours; • Fluorosis or tetracycline staining; • Patients using oral (removable or fixed) orthodontic appliances; • Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. • Patients who have had prior dental bleaching treatments • Smokers and other oral staining habits • Presence of trauma, tooth malformation • Patients exhibiting high anxiety

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To determine if a laser-enhanced 6% HP solution is equivalent to a 35% HP solution over a 2 visit power bleaching treatment

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To determine if activated charcoal is a suitable carrier for hydrogen peroxide as well as a suitable catalyst. 2. To improve our understanding of the bleaching process 3. To develop a safer and more effective protocol for power bleaching
