Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Moderately acute malnourished aged 6-36 months children with =115 mm MUAC < 125 mm and without bilateral oedema whose parents/caregivers consented to participate, had the intention of staying in the area during the study period and were willing to be visited in their homes and had been residents in the area for at least 6 months prior to the study. The study recruited eligible children of mothers who gave an informed consent, accepted blood to be drawn from their children; and were willing to bring their children daily to the feeding centres were enrolled into the programme.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Children with bilateral oedema, bed-ridden children and those with other chronic medical conditions as verified from a medical examination report by a clinical officer. Children who were consuming fortified foods or were on micronutrient supplementation programs (except Vit. A) were also excluded. Children enrolled in other food supplementation programs were also excluded
