Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adolescent and adult patients (16+) who visited the out- and inpatient psychiatry clinic of Erasmus Medical Center for consultation or treatment in the period from 01-01-2003 to 30-06-2025, with one of the following health problems: ? Peripartum psychiatry Psychiatric problems in the peripartum period are common, in the first three months after childbirth the risk for women to develop any mental disorder is increased (5). At least one to two in every ten women suffer from postpartum depression (6). At our outpatient clinic we provide pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, day treatment and mother-infant treatment for women with perinatal psychiatric problems and their children. If needed, women can be hospitalised together with their new-born at our mother-baby unit, in order to facilitate the early mother-child bonding.  Severe depressive disorders Severe depressive disorders, especially those with psychotic symptoms or those which did not respond to previous treatment, are referred for diagnosis and treatment. Patients are seen for second opinion both in a clinical and outpatient setting. Our treatment has a focus on biological oriented treatment, including Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)(7).   First onset psychotic disorders The first signs of a psychotic disorder usually appear in late adolescence or young adulthood (8). At our department we offer diagnosis and treatment of early psychosis and bipolar disorder. We facilitate both admission at the acute admission ward and outpatient clinic. Treatment options consists of pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, family involvement/therapy and electroconvulsive therapy. In addition, we provide second opinions, for treatment resistant psychosis, side effects of medication and perform diagnostics in late onset psychosis.  Psyche and soma Psychiatric and physical disorders frequently co-occur (4, 9). These situations require close coordination between the specialists involved, e.g. liaison psychiatry. At our department, we perform peri-operative screening and advice in patients at risk for exacerbation of psychiatric disorders, including delirium.  We support the management of patients with mental disorders who have been admitted for the treatment of physicial disorders or patients who may report physical symptoms as a result of a mental disorder.  All patients are 16 years of older.  Linkage with data Antes mental health care instituteFor patients who have received care at both Erasmus MC and Antes, data will be linked to enable the assessment of continuity of care and care trajectories across healthcare institutions. The linkage will be performed within the secure research environment of Erasmus MC. For this purpose, identifying personal data available in both systems will be used, including patient and/or healthcare provider identifiers as required for reliable record linkage. Following successful linkage, the data will be pseudonymised and processed in accordance with applicable privacy legislation and institutional regulations.
