Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients over 18 years of age who have been ventilated in the ICU for more than 48 hours, have no neurological diagnosis and had an order for physical therapy during the ICU admission.Patients who are competent to provide consentPatients meet the safety criteria for active physical therapy
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with neurological disorder as primary reason for admission to the ICU (ie, subarachnoid bleeding, stroke, traumatic brain injury, neuro muscular disease) were not screened for eligibility. Exclusion criteria included contraindications to perform physical exercise safely according to the criteria of the Evidence Statement for physical therapy in the ICU, unable to follow instructions (measured with the Standardized 5 Questions)Recent myocardial ischemiaHart frequency <40 or > 130 /mBlood pressure: Map <60 mmHg or >110 mmHg Pulse oxymetry: = 90% Mechanical ventilation: FiO2 =0.6 (60%) PEEP= 10cm H2O Breathing frequency: Frequency > 40 per minute Level of consciousness : RASS score: -4, -5, 3 or 4 Dose of inotropes: Dopamine > 10 mcg/kg/min Nor/adrenaline = 0.1 mcg/kg/min Temperature: = 38.5 degrees Celsius=36 degrees Other: Pain, fatigue Surgical contra-indications (i.e. instable fractures, bone flap, open abdomen or thorax) Insufficient knowledge of the Dutch language, One or more amputated lower extremities, People unable to consent/ incapacitated peopleCooperative of S5Q < 3 from the Standardized 5 Questions
