(ipsilateral) motor function brain activity during movements

Interventions

Real and sham cTBS applied to contralateral M1 prior to fMRI scanning. Of note:&nbsp
cTBS is used solely as a research tool to transiently modulate cortical excitability in healthy volunteers. It is not applied with therapeutic intent and does not aim to provide clinical benefit.

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 64 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Blank neurological history Aged between 18 – 65 years Ability to provide informed consent Right-handedness 

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Noncompliance with the MRI safety checklist Anxiety in the scanner/claustrophobia Pregnancy Inability to hear the instructions presented orally in the scanner without a hearing aid Inability to clearly see the visual stimuli presented in the scanner without glassesMagnetic sensitive objects implanted in the head or neck area (e.g., cochlear implants, implanted neurostimulator, pacemaker or defibrillator, metal splinters, metal fragments, or metal clips)History of epilepsy or seizure disorder

MeasureTime frame
Changes in the amplitude of the BOLD signal  in ipsilateral M1 between real and sham inhibitory stimulation of contralateral M1. 

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Changes in the decodability of the BOLD signal  in ipsilateral M1 between real and sham inhibitory stimulation of contralateral M1. and the decodability of hand movementsDifference in behavioural performance (e.g., onset times, speed, accuracy, mirror movements) during the hand movement task in response to cTBS vs sham. Validation that the cTBS stimulation was successful by measuring MEPs in response to single-pulse TMS right after cTBS.
