Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Men or womenWhite Western EuropeanAge: 18-35 yearsBMI 18.5-25 kg/m2Generally healthy
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Smoking or alcohol abuse (>15 units/week)Taking hot saunas/baths regularly (>1/month)Travelled for a prolonged time (>1week) to destinations with elevated temperatures the last 3 monthsUnsteady dietary habits (weight loss or gain of more than 5kg in the past 3 months)Type 2 DiabetesDiagnosed GI tract disorders or cardiovascular diseasesHypertension (>140/90 mmHg)Donated blood within a month prior to test dayPregnantUse of any medication known to affect glucose or lipid metabolismHistory of dizziness or fainting during heat exposureParticipating in structured exercise program (>3x/week)Extremely early or late chronotypes or nightshift workersAny contraindication for MRI: metallic implants, pacemaker, claustrophobiaUnwillingness to be informed about potential abnormal MRI-findings

| Secondary study parameters include thermophysiological parameters (core and skin temperature), cardiovascular markers (heart rate, blood pressure), and plasma metabolites (glucose, insulin, free fatty acids, SCFAs, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides), and brain MRI markers (vascular and glymphatic functioning). Exploratory study parameters include subjective perception (thermal sensation and comfort), sleep quality, cognitive performance, microbial fermentation patterns, and immune function (inflammatory markers). | — |
