Age
18 Years to 64 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: To be eligible to participate in this study, a participant must meet all of the following criteria:Male or female sexAged between 18 – 35 years inclusiveBMI between 18 – 30 kg/m2Healthy, recreationally active (exercise at least once per two weeks and a maximum of four days per week)No physical limitations (i.e., able to perform all activities associated with daily living independently)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: A potential participant who meets any of the following criteria will be excluded from participation in this study:Intolerant to milk protein and/or dairy-based productsSmoking regularlyDiagnosed with gastro-intestinal disordersDiagnosed with metabolic disorders (e.g. diabetes)Diagnosed with musculoskeletal disordersBlood donation in the past 2 monthsFemales: pregnancyUse of any medication known to affect protein metabolism (e.g. corticosteroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories or prescribed acne medications)Chronic use of gastric acid suppressing drugs (e.g. proton pump inhibitors, H2-antagonists)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary objective of this study is to compare the 6-hour postprandial plasma total amino acid availability, expressed as incremental area under the curve (iAUC), following ingestion of different protein isolates in healthy young adults

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The secondary objectives for both sub-studies are: To compare plasma concentrations of non-essential amino acids, essential amino acids, branched-chain amino acids.To compare 6h postprandial serum mineral (calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium) and parathyroid (PTH) concentrations (as a proxy of calcium bioavailability).To compare 6h postprandial plasma GLP-1, osmolality, and fibroblast-growth-factor 21 (FGF-21) responses.
