Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Participants must be 18 years or older, diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and treated with pulmonary vein isolation using pulsed field ablation.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Being unable to provide informed consent, contra-indications to cardiac MRI or catheter ablation, previous catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, congenital heart disease, recent myocardial infarction or decompensated heart failure, prosthetic heart valves, impaired renal function (GFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2), pregnancy
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The main study parameters are the amount of left atrial fibrosis after pulsed field ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and whether gaps are seen in the circumferential lesions around the pulmonary veins. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Secondary study parameters will include left atrial parameters, specifically volumes, ejection fractions and strain measurements. Recurrence of atrial fibrillation between the ablation and CMR acquisition will be recorded. Adverse events will be recorded. | — |
