Study of neck lymph nodes in people with memory problems and Alzheimer’s disease, compared to healthy individuals (using MRI scans)

- Retrospective imaging analysis of cervical lymph nodes from patients with neurodegenerative disorders.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Known systemic lymph node diseaseAnother established neurodegenerative disorder, including: Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia, or Vascular dementiaPresence of a structural neurological abnormality, including: acquired brain injury or an ischemic/hemorrhagic strokeHistory of radiation therapy or unilateral or bilateral lymph node dissection in the head and neck region

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Primary outcome measures:Number of lymph nodes: per Robbins level (I–V)Volume: xyz in mm = volume in mm³, with 2.5 mm as the minimum for inclusionShape: round/oval, cortex-to-medulla ratio, presence/absence of fatty hilumSignal intensity: SUV value

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome measures:Radiological parameters: MTA, CGA, Fazekas, KoemanVariables: age at time of MRI, sex, disease duration, vascular disease (hypertension, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus).
