Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary objective of this study is to examine the effect of Grow It! app version 2.0 on symptoms of anxiety and depression in youth with chronic somatic condition immediately after the intervention (T1), and at three-month (T2) and six-month (T3) follow-up, compared to the symptoms of anxiety and depression at baseline, using a parallel group RCT. Symptoms of anxiety are measured with the anxiety subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Symptoms of depression are measured with the short form of the Child Depression Inventory-2.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The second objective is to examine the effect of Grow It! app version 2.0 on other psychological outcomes (using both the questionnaire data and the ESM data), underlying mechanisms of change (i.e., coping, emotional insight and self-reflection) and parental perspectives, and to explore the effect of individual differences (i.e., demographic and risk factors) on the effectiveness of the Grow It! app. The third objective is to investigate the cost-effectiveness of Grow It! in improving Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and well-being in adolescents with a chronic somatic condition. To help achieve this objective, two new questionnaires, one based on a validated adult version, and one based on a theoretical framework, were developed: the MHQoL-Y and the Well-Y. The data collected in this study will therefore also be used to validate these questionnaires. The fourth objective is to assess the user experience of Grow It! 2.0.
