Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Type 2 diabetesHbA1c > 53 mmol/molScheduled for orthopedic surgery (knee or hip arthroplasty) 

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Use of a basal-bolus insulin (i.e. 4 times a day insulin injections consisting of a basal and 3 times a bolus insulin) schedule Need for urgent orthopedic surgery i.e. within the next 6 weeksPrevious experience longer than 3 consecutive months with CGM devicesCurrent or planned pregnancy Use of parenteral feeding regimens.Any general diseases or mental disorder rendering participation in the study impossibleDrug abuse Insufficient mastery of the Dutch language

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Primary endpoint is the difference in TIR (time in mean range) over the five days prior to surgery between the two groups. 

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome include (differences in) effectiveness (amongst others measures of glycemic control, hospitalization outcomes, lifestyle and self-management), implementation / process evaluation, patient reported outcomes and cost-effectiveness.
