Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: People who:Are aged between 50 and 80.Have a unilateral transfemoral amputation.Use a knee prosthesis for at least one year.Weigh less than 100 kg.Are able to stand independently and perform mild exercises.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: People who:Suffer from diagnosed balance disorders that interfere with standing balanceNeurological or orthopedic condition that interfere with standing and/or sittingUse osseointegration as prosthesis interface.Have a body length lower than 160cm.Have a knee-exarticulationSuffer from hip-arthrosis or have a hip-prosthesis

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Participants will perform 2 tasks, sitting down and standing up, for two conditions, with stand-up support and without stand-up support, with variable seat-height. The main study parameter is defined as the lowest seat-height from which a participant is able to stand up without using their arms.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Degree of asymmetry between the ground reaction force, and the inverse kinematically calculated knee torque, of the sound limb and the prosthetic limb. The RMS of the Centre of Pressure (CoP) velocity during the initial 5 seconds after stand-up. This tests the standing stability right after the stand-up maneuver.Kinematic, motion capture, data of the lower extremity.
