Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Written informed consentMentally competent, as judged by the treating physicianDiagnosed with a periprostethic joint infection of hip or knee jointScheduled for surgery followed by intravenous antibiotic administrationAge between 50 - 80 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Age <50 or >80 yearsBMI >35 kg/m2Cognitive disorders that influence good understanding of the study proceduresNeurological or physical disorders, apart from the PJI of hip or knee joint, that influence habitual physical activity. ICU or MCU admission after surgeryChronic diseases that influence muscle metabolism: COPD Gold IV, Heart Failure NYA III-IV, thyroid disorders.Peripheral Artery Disease Fontaine III en IVUse of corticosteroids, thyroid medication.
