Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Written informed consentAdults (= 18 years)American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification I–IIWHO performance status = 0Body mass index (BMI) = 35 kg/m²Diagnosed with (non-complicated) colon cancerScheduled for an elective colon resection (right or left hemicolectomy, transverse colon resection or sigmoid resection) with primary anastomosis performed intracorporeallyUncomplicated operation (defined as surgery without intraoperative adverse events requiring deviation from standard protocol)Availability of ambulant care (provided by a family member or caregiver) during the first 72 hours following dischargeReliable telephone accessibility
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Limited mobilityAn active (pulmonary) infection or uncontrolled medical diseaseContra-indications for Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID) or spinal anesthesiaParenteral nutrition prior to surgeryMental or physical limitations in activities of daily livingRectal resection or creation of an ostomy
