| The primary outcome of interest was time to failure, defined as the duration in months between retainer placement in the upper and lower jaw until the occurrence of failure. Failure was defined at the patient level: a patient was considered failed if at least one of the retainers required clinical intervention after debonding or fracture. Only the first failure event per patient was included in the analysis. Patients who did not experience failure during follow-up were censored at the date of last contact. | — |
