Age
18 Years to 64 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: BMI >40 kg/m2 or >35 kg/m2 with obesity-related complicationsEligible for bariatric surgery after MDT screeningPrimary gastric bypass (RY,RA) as the chosen procedureWilling to provide adipose tissue biopsies and blood samples

Exclusion criteria: Severe uncontrolled metabolic disordersPrevious bariatric surgeryOther than primary gastric bypass procedurePregnant or lactating women, or planning to become pregnant within first 2 years 

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Patients will be stratified into two groups based on the Fibrosis in Adipose Tissue  (FAT) score (low fibrosis, FAT-score <2; high fibrosis, FAT-score =2). The primary outcome is body weight change 2 years after metabolic/bariatric surgery. 

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Changes in cardiometabolic risk factors, evolution of obesity complications and level of fibrosis post-bariatric surgery will also be examined.
