Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Mechanical ventilated with both PCV and APRV modes and Airway Pressure Release Ventilation (APRV) as part of routine clinical care and availability of routinely collected pressure and flow data during the transition from PCV to APRV.Informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of pneumothorax or subcutaneous emphysema during the relevant ventilation periods. -Extreme obesity (BMI > 40 kg/m²).Severe hemodynamic instability, defined as norepinephrine > 0.5 µg/kg/min during the ventilation period.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The difference in mean mechanical power over 10 consecutive breaths (expressed in joules/min) between PCV and APRV based on available clinical measurements during both ventilation modes.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Ventilator settings for PCV and APRV, relevant respiratory variables and blood gases, such as P/F ratio, PaCO2, minute ventilation and dynamic respiratory system compliance.
