Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 3-part (AO-type 11-B1 or B2) or 4-part (AO-type 11-C1 or C2) proximal humeral fractureAge 65 years or olderPrimary surgery within 14 days (if index treatment is operative)Informed consent by patient or proxy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Split-head PHF or fracture dislocation (AO 11-B3 and C3)Additional traumatic injury, affecting PHF treatment choice or rehabilitationPathological, recurrent, or open PHFParesis or paralysis of the affected armRetained hardware around PHFBone metabolism disorder excluding osteoporosisExpected problems with follow-upInsufficient Dutch language comprehension
