Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To obtain our primary outcome measures we will employ the PSBS and ASGS for assessing paranormal beliefs. Maladaptive personality traits, specifically Negative Affectivity and Psychoticism, will be evaluated using the PID5-BF-NL and extended PID-5 scales to examine their mediating role between PTSD severity and paranormal beliefs. The Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) will be employed to assess PTSD symptom severity and treatment efficacy. The CAPS will be administered at the start of treatment and at the end of treatment.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5, a self-re-port instrument comprising 20 items) to assess the severity of PTSD symptoms. • Depressive Attributions Questionnaire (DAQ; Kleim, Gonzalo & Ehlers, 2011) to assess attributional styles linked to depressive symptomatology, in an attempt to gain insight into cognitive patterns that may relate to belief systems or psychological functioning.  The effect of paranormal beliefs on PTSD treatment • Life Events Checklist for DSM-5 (LEC-5; Weathers et al., 2013) to evaluate exposure to potentially traumatic events, providing contextual information critical to the understanding of trauma-related symptoms. • Participants will also be asked whether they experience delusions or hallucinations. Here we intend to use the Psychotic Symptom Rating Scales (PSYRATS, Haddock, 1999), a questionnaire that consists of 18 questions divided into a Delusions Scale and an Auditory Hallucinations Scale. • Outcome Questionaire (OQ-45), a self-report questionnaire for adults that assesses psychological and physical distress across 45 items.  In addition, we will be recording treatment type (i.e., imagery exposure (IE) versus eye movement desensitization and reprocessing [EMDR]).  Finally, qualitative interviews will be conducted to explore the nature and impact of para-normal beliefs, particularly in relation to trauma, providing complementary insights into partici-pants' coping mechanisms.Across all studies, the following demographic characteristics will be collected and may be considered as covariates in exploratory or adjusted analyses: gender, age, educational level, relationship status, employment status, ethnicity, religion and highest education.
