Interventions

It will be evaluated whether cortisol and cortisone, measured in hair, is a good method to demonstrate the difference in stress hormones between therapy-resistant and well-controlled epilepsy

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -    Diagnosis of epilepsy according to ILAE criteria. -    Aged 16 years or older. -    Able to provide informed consent. -    Sufficient scalp hair (minimum 3 cm length) for analysis. -    Either seizure free for = 3 months OR = 4 seizures per month, with a seizure free period of maximal 1 week.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -    Any state precluding informed consent completion. -    Somatic or psychiatric comorbidities. -    Use of systemic corticosteroids within the past 3 months (due to direct impact on cortisol). -    Severe scalp dermatological conditions that might affect hair growth or cortisol incorporation. -    Major life events in the 6 months before recruitment (marriage, divorce, relocation, birth, new job etc)
