Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Diagnosed with HF regardless of type or etiologyAdmitted to the hospital because of predominantly left-sided or a combination of left- and right-sided ADHF. Age > 18 yearsAble to speak Dutch
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Admission because of purely right-sided ADHFPlanned surgery during admission Inotropic support during admission Palliative care resulting in death during admission Patients with cardiac implants (PM or ICD)Patients with cognitive impairmentPatients who are not legally competent
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The primary outcome is the correlation between changes in volume status (assessed by weight, IVC diameter, and E/E’ ratio) and changes in HRV, during recompensation in ADHF patients. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The secondary outcome measures include the comparison between heart rate variability (HRV) indices derived from electrocardiography (ECG) and those obtained from photoplethysmography (PPG). The aim is to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of PPG-based HRV measurements by assessing their correlation with the gold standard ECG-based metrics. We also want to assess the correlation between changes in speech and bio-impedance to changes in volume status or PCWP in ADHF patients. And post-discharge monitoring of HRV indices. | — |
