Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 64 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Pregnant women Age >= 18 years Nulliparous Uncomplicated pregnancy (i.e. no gestational diabetes or hypertensive disorder of pregnancy).  

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of comorbidities or disease (i.e. hypertension, diabetes, obesity)  Twin/multiple pregnancy Smoking or consumption of drugs and/or alcohol during pregnancy Planned to give breastfeeding in combination with infant formula from the beginning of the lactation period  

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Primary Objective: Determine the changes in cardiac size as the result of breastfeeding after pregancy.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary Objective(s): Identify biomarkers which are associated with lactation-related cardiac hypertrophy. Identify the role of maternal/obstetric/neonatal outcomes in relation to lactation and cardiac function.
