Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: • Age = 18 years. • Having received a second opinion by a psychiatrist as part of a psychiatric MAID trajectory that indicated that they conform to the criteria for MAID. To avoid pressure to participate, only patients whose second opinion is complete will be recruited. • Having given informed consent to participate in this study.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: • Insufficient decisional capacity to consent to the research. • Inadequate command of the Dutch language. • Major cognitive, visual or hearing impairments that would impede successful communication.

| The primary outcome is the qualitative data about the MAID request and decisional capacity, gathered from the interviews. The interviews will be based on a topic list that contains questions about: the participant in general, the development of the MAID request/trajectory, the development of decisional capacity, and the interaction between the development of the desire for MAID and the decisional capacity. | — |

| The following baseline characteristics will be gathered from the medical correspondence (letter of referral and report of the second opinion) and include age, sex, primary disorder for MAID, nature of unbearable suffering, somatic and psychiatric (co-)morbidity, and treatment history. | — |
