Transcranial Ultrasound Stimulation aimed at bilateral medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and striatum and control TUS (in separate sessions).

Age
18 Years to 64 Years
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Between 18-40 years of age, as recommended by the Donders NIBS SOP (K6A. section 7.2.5);Be eligible for receiving MRI scans (F1A. Donders MRI screening form).The ability and agreement to provide informed consent in sound body and mind, and the ability to fulfil the study’s requirements.Righthandedness.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Under 18 years of age and over 40 years of age; The consumption of more than four alcoholic units or any recreational psychoactive drugs within 24 hours before participation;A history of serious head trauma or brain surgery;Any current (episodes of) psychiatric or neurological disorders;Claustrophobia; Current pregnancy; Predisposition for fainting spells (syncope); Hearing problems or ringing in the ears;Implanted metal devices or large ferromagnetic fragments in the head or upper body (excluding dental wire), or jewellery/piercing that cannot be removed;Use of a medical plaster that cannot or may not be taken off (e.g., nicotine plaster);Use of (prescription) medication interacting with neuromodulation;Skin disease or sensitivity at intended stimulation sites; Large calcifications in the acoustic focus or beam path.Failure to learn the task during the training session (session 1), as indexed by failure to obtain learning criterion on repeated attempts of the task.Colorblindness.

| The primary endpoints are behavioral measures of 1) the Pavlovian bias and 2) self-reported control belief, and their modulation by task controllability. Additionally, we will employ fMRI to measure BOLD-signals to investigate 1) neural actor prediction error signals in the striatum and midbrain and 2) neural controllability prediction error signals in the mPFC, and their modulation by task controllability. | — |
