Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Men or womenWomen who are pre-menopausal (steady menstrual cycle) or at least one year post-menopausalWhite western EuropeanAge: 40-75 yearsBMI 27.5-35 kg/m2Steady dietary habits (no weight loss or gain of more than 5 kg in the past 3 months)Sedentary lifestyle (<2h exercise/week)Generally healthy, no medication use that interferes with metabolism.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Type 2 DiabetesMen haemoglobin <8.4 mmol/L; women haemoglobin <7.8 mmol/LSigns of active hypertension, liver or kidney malfunctionCardiac problems and cardiovascular diseasesMedical conditions requiring treatment and/or medication that might interfere with the investigated parameters (beta-blockers, thyroid medication, stimulants, antidepressants, anticoagulants, hormonal treatments).Unstable body weight (weight gain or loss >3 kg in the past three months)Recent participation in another biomedical study (less than 1 month)Participants who do not want to be informed about unexpected medical findings, or do not wish that their treating physician will be informedSmoking (in the past six months) or alcohol abuse (>2 servings per day for men; >1 serving per day for women)Taking hot baths/saunas and/or cold water/ice baths regularly (more than once per four weeks)Women who are in their menopause
