18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • >=18 years of age at presentation to the pulmonologist in the sleep clinic of ZMC, as part of the pre-treatment phase for initiation of CPAP treatment • diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) • BMI >= 30 kg/m2

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: <18 years of age existing anemia existing haematological malignancy Non-adherence to CPAP therapy

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The main study parameter in the present study is the change in intermediate monocyte fraction (%), compared at baseline and 6 months follow-up.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
In addition, differences in HbA1c (%, mmol/mol), CRP (mg/L), triglycerides (mmol/L), LDL-cholesterol (mmol/L), HDLcholesterol (mmol/L) and total cholesterol (mmol/L) will be investigated, and associated with monocyte-related parameters. Furthermore, differences in activation and differentiation markers on monocytes will be investigated and any possible confounding by any concomitant changes in medication use, dietary intake (mini-EAT), sleepiness (ESS) and physical activity (Questionnaire Physical Activity) will be monitored using short questionnaires (ESS, mini-EAT, Questionnaire Physical Activity).
