Age
2 Years to 64 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -    >4 years of age  -    History of non-syndromic cleft palate (CP) -    No history of speech improving surgery -    Hypernasality for study group; no hypernasality for control group -    Informed consent  -    Patient <12 years of age: informed consent required from parent(s)/legal guardian(s) -    Patients 12-16 years of age: informed consent required from both patient and parent(s)/legal guardian(s) -    Patient >16 years of age: informed consent required from patient  -    Patient can be well instructed with regard to the MRI scan    

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -    <4 years of age  -    No history of non-syndromic cleft palate (CP) -    History of speech improving surgery -    No hypernasality for study group; hypernasality for control group -    No informed consent  -    Patient cannot be well instructed with regard to the MRI scan Non-removable orthodontic device Any exclusion criteria regarding the MRI scan

The difference in MRI parameters of velopharyngeal anatomy between patients with cleft palate and velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI), and individuals with cleft palate without VPI.The correlation between MRI parameters of velopharyngeal anatomy and the outcomes of clinical speech evaluation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The feasibility of velopharyngeal MRI scans. The correlation between MRI parameters of velopharyngeal anatomy and the outcomes of PROMs, nasendoscopy, nasometry, mirror test, and oral inspection.
