Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patient that will undergo a kidney transplantation with a kidney from a living donor. Age between 18 and 65 years old. Written informed consent
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Chronic infections Diabetes mellitus Use of immunosuppressive medication (e.g. prednisone) or anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. NSAIDs) within 3 months prior to study entry Clinically significant infections within 1 month prior to study (defined as fever >38.5) Hospital admission or surgery with general anaesthesia within 3 months prior to study entry Liver disease (ALAT more than three times upper reference limit) or known liver disease Previous vaccination within 1 month prior to study entry Inability to personally provide written informed consent (e.g. for linguistic or mental reasons) Inability to undergo PET-CT scanning History of hematological malignant disease Documented bleeding diathesis or thrombocytopenia <50 *10e9/L Pregnancy

| 1. The trained immunity profile of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells from the bone marrow of the kidney transplant recipient, and the difference in this profile pre- and post- kidney transplantation. Before and 3 months after kidney transplantation, blood and bone marrow are collected from the patient and immune cells are isolated to examine the activity, transcriptome, and epigenome of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. 2. The metabolic activity of bone marrow from kidney transplant patients before and 3 months after kidney transplantation. FDG PET-CT imaging can be used to examine the metabolic activity of the bone marrow. 3. The trained immunity profile of monocytes from kidney transplant patients. Before and three months after kidney transplantation, blood is drawn from patients and circulating monocytes are isolated to examine the activity, transcriptome, and epigenome of these monocytes, and correlate with parameters measured in the bone marrow. | — |
