Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: severe depression conform DSM IV criteria egible for electroconvulsive therapy, inpatient, 60 years and older

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: dementia, younger than 60 years severe neurological disorder incapacity to give informed consent
