The SIMBA app is a tool which can be used in health care to stimulate children with asthma to become physical active. The SIMBA app is intended to use as an additional tool for health-care providers

Age
2 Years to 11 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Sedentary children with asthma aged 8 to 12 years old with a mild to moderate asthma degree

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Children with an additional chronic disease (except for obesity), or co-morbidity next to asthma and/or children who do not speak Dutch

MeasureTime frame
At the end of the third phase of the SIMBA study, a report will be delivered that provides insight into the feasibility and usability of the SIMBA app. Based on this report, the app will be optimized and there will be a follow-up study that will examine the app for effectiveness and ultimately implementation. The feasibility will be assessed on the basis of semi-structured interviews with both care providers and children with asthma (and their parents) during and at the end of the intervention period. The usability will be checked by the individual scores for the technological acceptance and system use of the app (System Usability Scale [SUS]). The SUS offers a fast, reliable tool for measuring usability.

MeasureTime frame
Success factors will be assessed by studying changes in physical activity (patterns and level). In addition, we will study the estimated exercise capacity of the 6-min walking test, the changes in joy of exercise and the self-image related to exercise.
