18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: * Neurodegenerative disease with a Language deficit * Dutch speaking * Age between 20-90 * Normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing * Informed consent * An impaired performance on the SYDBAT-NL

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: * Inability to speak/understand the Dutch language. * Current psychiatric disorder, such as psychosis or major depression * Current substance abuse * Current or past neurological disorder, such as severe cerebral disease, e.g. Parkinson*s disease, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, central nervous system infection, brain tumor, and alcoholic encephalopathy. N.B. Transient Ischaemic Attack, lacunar infarction and white matter lesions are no exclusion criteria. * Cognitive disorders in multiple other cognitive domains than language (e.g. memory or executive function deficits, as defined by cognitive test performance 2 or more standard deviation below normative scores);The exclusion criteria for undergoing an DTI scanning procedure are: * Electronically, magnetically and mechanically activated implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators) or metallic devices (e.g. prosthetic heart valves) which could be affected by the magnetic field * Claustrophobia * Loose metallic objects in the body (e.g. metallic fragments in the eyes from occupational exposure) which could be moved by the magnetic field * inability to lie flat comfortably in the MRI scanner for 30 minutes

MeasureTime frame
The first main study parameter is white matter pathway (dorsal & ventral) integrity score as determined by Fractional anisotropy values in ventral (extreme capsule fibers & uncinate fasciculus) and dorsal (arcuate fasciculus) white matter tracts, measured by Diffusion Tensor Imaging. The second main study parameter is language production ability as assessed with several language tests. For this, the following tests will be administered: * Sydney Language Battery Dutch version (SYDBAT-NL): This test battery was developed as a test of single-word processing and includes 4 subtests assessing Naming, Word comprehension, Semantic association and Repetition. * Picture-word interference task which asks participant to name pictures of objects or actions while trying to ignore superimposed distracter words (e.g., pictured cat with word dog superimposed, say *cat*; or run combined with swimming, say *swim*). The distracter words are congruent (cat-cat; swim-swim) or incongruent (dog-cat; run-swim).

MeasureTime frame
Other study parameters are patient characteristics (age, sex, education level and estimated premorbid IQ) and measures of other cognitive domains. All these measurements will be collected as part of the routine clinical diagnostic work-up at the participating departments.
