Inclusion criteria: - age 18 years of older - body mass index > 28 kg/m2

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Use of medication interfering with fat metabolism (thiazolidinediones) - Type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus - Smoking

- RNA expression levels in subcutaneous adipose tissue (i.e. fat biopsy and subsequent transcriptome analysis) - RNA expression levels in skeletal muscle (i.e. muscle biopsy and subsequent transcriptome analysis)
