Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Systolic Blood Pressure between 125 and 159 mmHg • Age between 30 and 80 years • BMI > 20 and

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Hisory of CVD • Diabetes • Usage of cholesterol-lowering medication • Usage of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen, naproxen) and not able or willing to stop taking them from at least 4 weeks prior to the study • Smokers • Weight loss or weight gain of 5 kg or more during the last 2 months

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome is the change in Flow-Mediated Dilation (FMD) as a marker of vascular function.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcomes include: - Blood Pressure - Pulse-Wave Velocity - Pulse Wave Analysis - Vasomotion - Biomarkers of vascular and endothelial function - Biomarkers of inflammation - Glucose resistance (HOMA-IR)
