Interventions

One group receives 3 times per week, for 12 weeks lower leg low velocity strength training. The other exercise group receives 3 times per week, for 12 weeks lower leg high velocity strength training

Age
18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Old adults, age 65 years and older, with low mobility and a SPPB score of 6-9;Healthy young adults, age 20-25

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Cardiovascular disorders that causes risk with exercise. - High bloodpressure that is uncontrolled by medication (>180/115) - Previous stroke - Parkinson disease, - Alzheimer or other forms of dementia - Any type of Cancer that is currently been treated or has been treated within 3 months before participation to the study - Pulmonary pathologies that cause risks with exercise(severe asthma, chronic bronchitis) - Musculoskeletal disorders that disables a person from normal walking - Joint replacements in the lower extremity - Severe diabetes involving neuropathy - Visual impairments that disables normal mobility - Smoking, or smoked within one year before participation to the study - BMI higher than 30 kg/m2. - Written informed concent

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome measures are gait speed and muscle strength.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome measures are kinematic and kinetic gait characteristics, including step length, stride duration, joint torques, joint powers and EMG.
