Conditions

hoge bloeddruk, zoutsensitiviteit hypertension sodiumsensitivity

Interventions

The subjects will be randomized in two sequences: first low sodium diet (50 mmol/24 uur) and afterwards high sodium diet (200 mmol/24 uur) with 4 weeks in between, or the other way around. On day 3

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: healthy non-smoking male subjects, age: 18-45 years old

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - BMI >= 30 - Diabetes mellitus - Participants with renal diseases - Participants with cardiovascular diseases - Any form of medication - Blood pressure: systolic > 140, diastolic > 90 mmHg - Smoking tobacco - Any surgical or medical condition that in the opinion of the investigator would jeopardize the evaluation of efficacy or safety - History of noncompliance to medical and dietary regimens and participants who are considered potentially unreliable

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The main primary endpoint of this study is VEGF-c expression in monocytes after low and high sodium diet.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
- Secondary endpoint will be blood pressure response (office blood pressure and 24 hour blood pressure) after low and high sodium diet in healthy male subjects. - Secondary endpoint will be degree of arterial stiffness (by measuring PWV and PWA) after low and high sodium diet in healthy male subjects. - Secondary endpoint will be the relation between VEGF-C expression in monocytes, plasma VEGF-C levels, VEGF-R3 and VEGF-R2, eNOS and RAAS-parameters.
