Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: * Acute respiratory failure requiring noninvasive ventilatory support in ICU. * COPD (past medical history) * Able to adequately oxygenate and ventilate without support for ± 5 minutes (necessary for changing the interface). * Age > 18 years * Mentally competent
