Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Criteria 1 and/or 2: 1. Maxillary discrepancy (uni- or bilateral crossbite, maxillary anterior and/or posterior crowding, buccal corridors), treated with SARME, > 3 years ago. 2. Mandibular discrepancy (mandibular anterior and/or posterior crowding, uni- or bilateral crossbite) , treated with MMD, > 3 years ago.;- Patients are at least 18 years - Complete records and availability of anterior-posterior cephalogram and dental casts (pre-operative and 1-year post-operative)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Congenital (craniofacial) deformity patients Incomplete records, unavailability of anterior-posterior cephalograms or dental casts. History of radiation therapy in the area of interest Under 18 years Mental retardation

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Difference in inter canine (of the mandible MMD) and inter first molar (of the maxilla SARME) distance measured on dental casts. A significant amount of decrease between T1 and T2 of inter canine (MMD) and inter first molar (SARME) will be defined as relapse.

Secondary

MMD: o Amount and extent of complications during treatment SARME: o Difference in amount of dental /skeletal relapse between bone-borne and tooth-borne distractors at T2, in mm. o Differences in segmental tipping at pre- and molar level on dental casts (T0-T1,T1-T2 and T0-T2), in degrees. SARME and MMD: o Difference in intercanine, inter first premolar, and inter first molar distance (T0-T1, T1-T2 and T0-T2), in mm. o Amount skeletal tipping on anterior-posterior radiographs * MMD: difference of ramal angle (RA) (T0-T1, T1-T2 and T0-T2), in degrees. * SARME: difference in maxillary tipping (Ti) (T0-T1, T1-T2 and T0-T2), in degrees. o Amount dental tipping in SARME and MMD patients on dental casts * MMD: differences at canine, first premolar and first molar level (T0-T1,T1-T2 and T0-T2), in degrees. * SARME: differences at canine, first premolar and first molar level (T0-T1,T1-T2 and T0-T2), in degrees. o Arch length, on dental casts: * MMD: Difference between length (T0-T1, T1-T2 and T0-T2), in mm. * SARME: Difference between length ( T0-T1, T1-T2 and T0-T2), in mm. o Number of additional orthognathic interventions after SARME or MMD o Long term (> 3 years) patient satisfaction subdivided in: overall satisfaction; satisfaction with occlusion; satisfaction with speech; satisfaction with lip closure; satisfaction with breathing; acceptance of current TMJ function/facial pain; acceptance of lower lip/chin region sensibility
