18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Twenty-six male healthy right-handed non-smoking volunteers aged between 18-35 years and female healthy right-handed non-smoking volunteers taking contraceptives aged between 18-35 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for participation include metal in cranium, use of psychotropic drugs, including cannabis, XTC, amphetamines and cocaine, epilepsy or family history of epilepsy, history of closed-head injury, history of neurological or psychiatric disorders, medication use (i.e., benzodiazepines, antidepressants and neuroleptica), cardiac pacemaker, pregnancy and electronic hearing devices.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Cortical excitability: Single-pulse TMS will be used to examine changes in excitability of the left primary motor cortex in response to the presentation of bodily in combination with facial expressions and an fictitious emergency with different people (the bystander effect).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Long Interval Cortical Inhibition: Paired-pulse TMS will be used to examine intracortical nhibitory processes of the left primary motor cortex in response to the presentation of bodily and facial expressions. The motor evoked potential (MEP) is the dependent variable and MEP amplitude following TMS will be measured from two Ag-AgCl-tipped electrodes attached the surface of the abductor pollicis brevis of the right hand and indicative for action preparation in the primary motor cortex.
